Web Browser Configuration Help

Back to Support
If you are having trouble accessing the system, and you have a valid Learner ID and Password, then the problem may be with the configuration of your web browser. The default settings of all popular browsers will work with WebInService, but it is possible that your configuration is different. WebInService doesn't require any special plugins or components. It does need to use a cookie to temporarily store some information that identifies you.

A Cookie??!!
A cookie is a small file that is created and managed by your web browser. Some cookies hang around for awhile, and are called 'persistent' cookies. Web sites use them to keep track of how often you visit, what your preferences are, and things like that. Other cookies, like the ones WebInService uses are temporary. They only exist as long as you are in the Learning System. They are important because they store information the System needs to handle requests from you.

How can I tell?
The usual indication that cookies are not enabled is that you are able to get to your login page and enter your information, but after the transfer page is displayed, you get an error message.

To run a quick test click here to test your cookies.

For more browser-specific information about cookies, try these links:

    Note

Some organizations have very strict rules about how applications that connect to the Internet are configured. Before changing the configuration of your browser, check with your Information Systems staff to be sure you will not violate their configuration policies.

Here's how to check your internet browser options to ensure that cookies are enabled.

    For Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x:

    1. Click on View from the main menu at the top of the page
    2. Click Internet Options
    3. Click the Advanced Tab
    4. Check Always accept cookies
    For Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0:
    1. Click on Tools from the main menu at the top of the page
    2. Click Internet Options
    3. Click the Security Tab
    4. Click the Internet Icon
    5. Change the 'Security level for this zone' to Medium, OR click 'Reset to Default'.
    For most versions of Netscape:
    1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
    2. Click Advanced.
    3. Click to select the box labeled Accept All Cookies.
    4. Click OK.
