Epilepsy Foundation
This site has information to help people who have epilepsy and those who support them. It has information about causes and types of seizures. It shares possible triggers and treatments. There are tools and resources that can be used by people who have epilepsy. This includes legal information. It also includes information about driving and transportation. You can download a journal to track important information. The site discusses healthy living and other ways to manage this condition.
Managing Epilepsy
Epilepsy may present challenges for people who have this condition. It may interfere with daily life. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists free resources to help people with epilepsy or those who support them manage the condition. There is a 24/7 helpline and ways to connect with support groups. There are resources that may be able to help pay for medication. There are other mental health resources, as well.
Seizures and Epilepsy in Childhood: A Guide for Parents
This book can be a resource for parents in need of medical information about their child with epilepsy. It includes approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy in childhood. It discusses diagnostic techniques. There is also information about medication, diet, and surgical treatments. It talks about how to support the needs of children with epilepsy regarding routine health care. The authors encourage active participation in school activities and sports. They stress the importance of helping children with epilepsy to be as engaged in life as possible. It can be purchased at retailers or online.
Self-Management Resources
Self-management is both a process and a set of behaviors. Epilepsy self-management has been defined as the steps people use to manage their seizures, treatments, and the effect of epilepsy on their daily lives. It is a critical part of person-centered care. It involves the person with epilepsy, their loved ones, and healthcare providers. A growing body of evidence supports the use of epilepsy self-management to improve health and quality of life outcomes. This site provides many tools and resources to help people manage this condition.
