Michael H. Minger (MHM) Foundation - Fire Safety for Students with Disabilities

The MHM Foundation’s mission is to raise awareness and standards of campus fire safety for all students and also address fire safety issues specific to individuals with disabilities. Their website includes a series of fire safety videos for students with disabilities. It reviews support strategies for individuals who may have difficulties with hearing, mobility, or vision impairments. MHM’s resource, Guide to Teaching Fire Safety to Students with Disabilities, provides tips and strategies to supporting adults with disabilities navigate fire safety.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) - U.S Fire Administration

As an entity of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the mission of the U.S. Fire Administration is to support and strengthen fire and emergency medical services (EMS) stakeholders to prepare for, prevent, mitigate, and respond to all hazards. This online resource provides checklists, strategies, and tips to help navigate potential emergencies. It offers resources on safe cooking behaviors, what to do after a fire in a home setting, and common problems and causes associated with electrical fires. It provides tips on how to prevent and mitigate risks in the environment and how to safely evacuate during fire emergencies.

In Advance: A Practical Handbook for Emergency Planning

This resource is provided by Project Safe EV-AC (Evacuation and Accommodation of People with Disabilities). This resource guide provides information on developing evacuation plans in collaboration with and accommodation for individuals with disabilities. In includes information for many types of emergencies and disasters. It provides practical tips to support individuals with disabilities in overcoming the fear and anxiety associated with emergencies. It offers strategies for preparing and planning in the event of an emergency.

A Time to Act

This is a short video on the importance of fire prevention developed by the Centers for Disease Control. It contains many important tips for avoiding fire injuries.
